Welcome to the blog of the research project Rethinking Disability, based at Leiden University and funded by the European Research Council. In this project we investigate the global impact of the International Year of Disabled Persons (1981) in historical perspective.
This blog will keep you posted about the most varied aspects of our work. We will give an insight into our research stays in different regions of the world. We will explore the ways in which our research is connected to the history of human rights, the Cold War and global health, identity politics, development aid, social policies and social movements. We will also use this space to provide information about the contribution of our research to current issues like debates about diversity and citizenship and to the agenda of the United Nations.
Do you have an interest in these topics? Please follow us on Twitter or Facebook. If you wish to contribute to our blog because you work on related issues or you have personal memories about the International Year of Disabled Persons which you would like to share with us, please get in touch at rethinkingdisability@hum.leidenuniv.nl.
